We have owned some AC Porkies for several years now. They were sold to us as a mating pair, which obviously they are not. (as we have had them several years, without any babies) I had convinced myself that I was not really interested in breeding AC Porcupines as they are SO DIFFERENT than the North American Porcupines that we raise. Well... in 2018 I decided to try out a bottle baby AC. He just arrived on 4/21/18. He is sweet (enough) but as I suspected... I do much prefer the NA porkies!
Meet SHERMAN THE TANK!
he is about 6 weeks old in these photos. He really doesn't take his bottle that great but he LOVES food of pretty much ANY KIND! He is not too bad at being held on your lap or in your arms but I feel he TOLERATES it more than he LIKES it! At this point we MAY or MAY NOT be looking for a female to breed with him someday.. the jury is still out!
We do have 2 older African Crested Porcupines , SIR POKESALOT & HOKEY POKEY that we have had for years....They are not the tamest, but they are AWESOME to see! (they actually come and get treats out of your hand, they are just not touchable... although, how many people REALLY want to touch that??
